The nose, lingering and soft, together with the bright, fresh colour, are the first impressions of this wine.  A mouthful reveals a smoothness which belies its tender age, together with dark black berries, and mintiness. Our flagship wine.

Belfield Aristata 2007

A careful blend between the two adjacent vineyards on the property. A classic Bordeaux style blend with incredible balance and finesse, enhanced by the cool climate site and iron stone soils. Dark fruit, chocolate and spice flavours abound.

Blend: Merlot 57 % / Cabernet Sauvignon 43 %
Alcohol: 13.5%

Belfield Merlot 2008

Sourced from a 3/4 of a hectare vineyard on the farm, this hand crafted Merlot shows old world elegance and New World fruit. Lovely oak integration gives flavours of dark chocolate and spice mingled with the red berries, typical of the fruit from the vineyard.

Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book 2009 – Hugh Johnson is considered to be the world’s favourite wine writer. He mentions Belfield’s Magnifica in the South African section, called “From the Nursery”.  His description, “Belfield, family label from Elgin; Leafy, lovely Cabernets and Bordeaux red.”

Michael Olivier featured Belfield in his 2009 edition of Crush,” Waves of cassis and blood plums crash on a beach of chunky yet smooth tannins and carry through in a delicious long aftertaste”.
